Pontiac Repair: map sensor and air flow sensor, air flow sensor, pontiac bonneville

Question
QUESTION: What is happening when map sensor and air flow sensor go out?

ANSWER: Hi Maria:

what model and year car is this. It's odd to loose both of them. Usually the MAF goes bad and you just loose that siganl and the car will idle wierd hesitate and maybe die out at a stop light. most of the time it's just the sensor it's self that is bad especilly if it's in a 3.8 liter engine 3800 series 2.

QUESTION: Wow!!!!! I was very shock to hear from you. This is great. You deserve expert of the month(10). Being a female this service will help out. This car is a Pontiac Bonneville 3800 series 2. I had a complete tune up done on yesterday and it went dead after leaving the shop. The code show air flow sensor and map sensor. I also had the crank sensor replace in 2008.

Thanks kindly

Answer
TY for the kind comment. I'm happy to help you out!

Does the car die out? If so is it just like some turned the key off or does it chug sputter and cough before it dies if indeed in does die?

Like I sated before a MAP sensor code on these is REALLY odd MAF not so much. if this is a newer one say 2003-2005 I would have the Ground checked on the front of the engine. there is a BUSS ground pack and that could be loose/corroded and that will affect the MAF for sure not sure about the MAP.. If they were in the messing around I would be suspect of that. If you had a "complete" tune up done and a PCV valve was replaced then #1 make sure it was an original equipment one and #2 there is a sealing o-ring that sits under that and 9 out of 10 times if it's an independent shop they threw out the old valve and the seal was stuck on the old valve and now there is a big vacuum leak and that could cause both issues there has to be a o-ring seal under the valve or all kinds of wierd stuff will happen. Good luck :)
