Pontiac Repair: 2000 sunfire rear struts, rear axle assembly, spring compressor tool

Question
I was wondering how you get the rear struts out of a 2000 sunfire. I have all the bolts off and i can't get clearence enough to get it out of the lower bracket. I have a spring compressor tool but i can't get it on  because there's not much room. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Heather.

the struts are bolted to the body you need to remove the nuts and bolts from inside the trunk. once you do that unbolt them from the rear axle assembly and then you can use that spring compressor and remove the struts saefly from the spring. I suggest you replace the upper mounts along with the strut cartridges those go bad all the time! Good luck :)
