Pontiac Repair: 1993 Buick, gm vehicle, rust belt

Question
My dad has a 1993 Buick Century that belonged to my grandmother. It is a 3300 engine and the car has about 55,000 miles, so it's in good conditon, but the body is very ugly and rusted so he wants to know if it's possible for that engine to fit in a newer model GM vehicle, such as a new Century, Grand Prix, Grand Am, Impala, Malibu, etc. He wants to buy a car that needs a new engine so he can take the engine from the Buick and put it in a newer car. From my research it looks like that engine was discontinued in '93 so I was thinking maybe it wouldn't fit, but I don't really know. What do you think?

Answer
Hey Jaimie:

Well that engine is an odd breed it was only in a couple of model years and only in 2 body lines that I know of. The Centry is on the other is a Pontiac Grand Am. And yes 93 was the last year for it. It will not fit in other body lines with out too much of a hastle. I would look for a 92 or 93 Century or a Grand Am that had that engine in it from the factory that way all the elctronice will match and the transmission will bolt right up that engine had a different bolt pattern then the other engines of that era so the trnamission mounting is an issue as well. If you had your heart set on transplanting that engine into another car your choices are limited. If the cirrent car it's in now is a rot box you must live in the rust belt like I do in the Northeast. Look in auto trader for one out of state dowsn further south the car may have a bad engine it it an a lot of milage on it but at least the body will still be in good shape. Good luck :)
