Pontiac Repair: my 1997 sunfire, jam switches, dome lamps

Question
hi, i have a 1997 sunfire and I've been having trouble with my battery. it keeps going dead so i thought it was just a battery problem so i went and bought a new one and it started and everything was working, but the next day i went to start it and the car wouldn't start also when i opened the door it binged and my like hazard side lights started blinking. could it be the battery terminals? or what. i would really appreciate it thank you

Answer
Hey Scotty:

When the car is running do you notice anything that is not working properly or doesn't work accy wise or lighting? If so that is where I would satrt looking first to what ever is acting up with the key out do the dome lamps shut off after about a minute? If not I would look at one of the door jam switches being bad. does this have any kind of aftermaket stuff on it like an alarm/remote start radio/sound system? If so I would disconnect that stuff first. Another tying to look at is there a a cluster of ground wires on the battery tray or under the battery tray that is the main body ground for everything. make sure the gound is not loose or corroded. that is where I would look first.
