Pontiac Repair: 99 grand prix unlocks by itself, door latch assembly, grand prix gt

Question
Hello, I have a 1999 Grand Prix GT and it has started to unlock itself randomly. Either when driving or parked. Both doors will unlock. Further when parked the interior lights come on then dim, then hear relay click located below steering wheel about where right knee would hit lower panel. Then locks unlock. It will do this about half a dozen to a dozen times then it will quit. I think do to protection circuit kicks in to save battery. I have checked fuses, pulled connector from both lock switches. No help. Think it maybe Mall or BCM modules. Also been looking at wiring in driver door. Please advise

Answer
Hey Rich:

Well it can be a lot of things But I'm thinking it may be an issue in the door latch assembly possibly water in the switch giving the BCM a lock or unlock input and then the locks lock and or unlock. That is the onl;y thing the issue you have going on have in common. And the door latches have a switch for an lock/unlock to the bcm if you were to unlock the door with the key rather then with the key remote. If it happens all the time that makes it easier to find the problem. The issue here is the BCM in that car is not a bidirectional BCM meaning that it is not on the module data stream so the use of a scan tool will not help you out. The BCM doesn';t have a data stream to look at so it's a porcess of elimination with out a wiring diagram. I would start with the left front door and unlock plug the door latch unplug it and see if the lights and locking issue goes away if not try the right front door same thing.. see if the issue is with either of the latches if not the issue is a deeper problem then that..  Good luck :)
