Pontiac Repair: 2007 Grand Prix, car parts stores, failure code

Question
QUESTION: I had the PCM replace about 3 months ago because it kept dieing while I was driving and the display said reduced engine power due to "something" sorry I don't remember but the dealership replaced ir for free even though it was out of warranty.  Well now I can be driving or even sitting at a light or just stared the car and the whole electrical systems reboots I lose the time and the date but not my radio station settings. The doors unlock then relock the gages roll to 0 the to the max then back to normal.  Any info will help.

ANSWER: Hi Kendra:

there is some sort of an electronic gremlin going on here. All of the electronice on the car are tied in to each other so if one of the modules is acting up it can effect the other ones that are connected to it. It could be something as simple as a loose or bad connection on the ground cable from the battery to the cars body. what you need to do first off is see what codes are stored in any of the control modules in the car it will leave a thum print as to what my be the root cause untill you find out what if any codes may be stored on in the modules it's impossible to say what the issue may be. A lot of the big box car parts stores will scan for codes for free. see what they come up with and then you can go forward from there.  Good luck :)

QUESTION: Okay thank you.  I will take it by a place tomorrow. Will there still be a code since no errors appear on the display where the previous problems message was?  I have already checked the battery connections they are both good.

Answer
yes usually the control modules will store codes in them for up to 50 key cycles after a failure code was stored before they will automically clear out.. I'm sure there are communication codes in the modules for loss of communication from one or more modules or a data line voltage code..
