Pontiac Repair: sunfire will not start, fuel pumps, factory security

Question
i drove my 2005 sunfire home one day cut it off and come back apx 4 hr, what can it be or what do i need to checks later and it would not crank it would turn over but sounded like no fire it jusst turned over and over and over. It was working one time then now i will not start

Answer
Hey Kris:

A common issue with these cars is fuel pumps go bad due to the fact that no one ever changes the fuel filter untill the pump can pump anymore through a clogged filter.. try this have someoone crank the car over for you while you tap on the bottom of the gas tank with a rubber mallet hit it hard but do not beat on it. the jaring action from the mallet combined with the pump trying to run a lot of times will allow the car to crank over and run. If not take note of the security lamp on the dash if it's flashing then the factory security system has a fault in inand the car will not start either.. that is where I would start looking.. Good luck :)
