Pontiac Repair: Starter wont turn over, upper intake manifold, coolant leak

Question
The car is my girlfriend's Buick Regal Custom 3.8. When I turn the key there is one aggressive clunk and then nothing. The car WILL turn over and start if the serpentine belt is removed. Is the starter dying and not able to crank with the added load, or is it possible a connection/ground is weak? The battery has been tested and is fine. There is a coolant leak the general area of the starter.

Answer
Hi Mike:
if the cra will not crank over but when you take the blet off it will crank and run then one of the accessoies the belt drives is seized up. try to turn the pulley on every accessory. when ever one will not spin is the culprit. As for a coolant leak towards the back of the engine area more then lilley it's a upper intake manifold leaking. take a look just under the throttle body and see if that is where the coolant if comming from. if so then the upper manifold is warped/distoreted replace the manifold and gasket.. just replacing the gasket will only work for a short time before it starts to leak again. good luck :)
