Pontiac Repair: 2002 Grand Prix will not start after changing the battery., jumper cable, battery cables

Question
Hi, Todd.
I have a 2002 3.8 Grand Prix GT.  The battery went dead on it and after replacing it, the car will not start.  Nothing comes up on the dash (no light, no clicks, etc.), and the key gets stuck as well.
So, I tried the following and the car started, but turns off when I try to drive it:
I connected a jumper cable from the battery post (+ terminal) while the battery cable was plugged in and connected the other end to the ‘fuse box’ right besides the battery (on the + terminal); right after doing that, the lights in the dash came up and the car started.  I took the jumper cable off and when I shift the gear to drive, the car turns off.
Any suggestion?
Thanks!

Answer
Hi there:

you have a bad connection between the batter yand the battery cables more likely the (+) cable the acid leaked out of the battery at the post on the battery and caused a corrosion issue at the battery cable give the cables a tung and I bet the (+) core right off the battery you may need to replace the (+) cable along with the battery. Do not use a fits all cable from the corner parts store get the correct one from the dealer. you are asking for trouble using a fits all cable they are either the wrong gauge cable or have the wrong size ends etc... Good luck :)
