Pontiac Repair: Alarm System, grand prix gtp, pontiac grand prix gtp

Question
QUESTION: I Have a 97 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP 3.8 supercharged with stock alarm. and both my remote buttons stopped working. i recently removed the DIC fuse but wouldn't think that would affect the alarm. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

ANSWER: Hi Jonathan:

if the remotes stopped workingat the same time you pulled that fuse then the "DIC" fuse must also run power to the keyless entry receiver as well. My on-line service info only goes back to 1998 so I can't tell you if they share the same fuse or not but it's a good chance the keyless entry receiver and dic are tied into together. If they quit working you removed the fuse and they both quit at the same time then ther is a really good chance the receiver went bad. If the batteries went dead in the trnamsitters they have to be resynced to the car after replacement before they will work. to syn them to the car press and hold the lock and unlock buttons at the same time for 15 seconds and they shoul be relearned to the receiver.  Good luck :)

QUESTION: The remotes didn't stop working until a couple days after i unplugged that fuse but i will try and put it back in and see what happens... 97-03 GTP's should all almost identical. i will also try to reprogram the remotes, if my receiver went bad is there any chance you would be able to tell me where it is located? (the 98 model should be the same). thanks.

Answer
The DCDLR is in the center of the dash behinf the trip calculator/Driver info center. I did some digging the RCDLR usued the same fuse as the radio, chnace are if they both stopped working at the same time then the receiver is the culprit the Body control module usually is not to blame for these quitting working. I take it the door locks and trunk release work from insode the car right? If so then I would bet $ it's the receiver that is bad. good luck :)
