Pontiac Repair: keyless entry and remote start, body control module, remote start

I just bought a 2006 Grand Prix and the keyless entry and the remote start functions do not work. The lights flash when I use the remote start but no sound at all. The keyless entry does nothing. The alarm and the trunk release both work well from a long distance. Could this be a remote problem?

Yes it can be a bad button on the remote(S)
It can also be an issue if there is a trouble code set in the engine computer. If the service engine light is on has been on it will not allow a remote start event to take place. You could have an issue with the body control module or keyless entry receiver too. The system is pretty complex and there are 3 modules that control a remote start and if there is an issue with any of the 3 the remote start will not work.. On the remotes does the lock feature work? if lock doesn't work that is what arms the system to eventually start the car once you press the start button.. Good luck :)
