Pontiac Repair: fuel pump, pontiac bonneville, spark tester

Question
My girlfriend was driving her 1992 Pontiac Bonneville and it shut off on her. It didnt make any noise it just died. When she pulled it over and tried to start it, it acted like it was gonna start but it wouldnt. Now there is 1/4 tank in it. Could it be the fuel pump  or something else?

Answer
Hi Matt:
you need to see what it's missing as to why it will not start it's either a fuel or spark issue. when you tunr the key to the runposition you should be able to hear the pump run for about 10 second then turn off. If you don't hear the pump running it' quite possable that is the issue but you could have a power or ground problem going to the pump. as for spark you can get a tool called a spark tester you just unplug one of the plug wires and put this tool in the plug wire and crank the car over and see if there is spark on the tool. If not check the other 5 cylinders. if there is no spark it can be a bad crank position sensor or a bad ignition moudule. Good luck :)
