Pontiac Repair: No power to injectors., pontiac sunfire, pulse signal

Question
QUESTION: I bought a 1996 Pontiac Sunfire with the 2.2L. When I got it, there was a bad injector leak. So I immediately after driving it home, running out of gas on the way. Because it was sucking so much fuel. Anyways. I replaced the o rings. Since then I have not been able to get the car to start. I have spark and you can smell fuel. But I am only getting power to one injector. I believe it was injector #4. Now I didn't notice the few times I started it prior to this. But the tach does not move when you crank it up. Is that normal? I would greatly appreciate any help you can offer in this matter. I bought this to fix up and resell. Right now I am at trial and error. I don't want to have to start replacing things that I don't need to. Crank sensor, camshaft sensor, ignition module, ect.

Thank you very much for you time in this matter. I look forward to your help.

ANSWER: Hey shawn:

the tach will not show a rpm untill it's actaully running I belive. as for the injectors they should all have power the engine computer grounds the injectors to turn them on., get your self a injector noid light and plug it in to each injector and crank the car the noid light should flash each time the injector is commanded on from the engine compouter. it it does on one and the other other 3 then you need to check for a constant power to each injector and repair the open or high resistance to the injector power feed or your loosing the pulse signal from the engine computer. good luck :)

QUESTION: Thank you very much for your immediate response. I greatly appreciate it. I finally got the car to where I am getting power to the injectors. It ended up somehow tripping the anti theft system. I had to reset the car. Now it is acting like it is out of time. The car ran fine, except the injectors were leaking. I replaced the o rings. And now it seems to be more. Can the car jump timing by trying to start it over and over again? I am not sure what my question is here. I guess I am more or less trying to pick your brain on possibilities. I do not want to have to tear the engine down and do a timing chain set if I do not want too. What would make the car try to start, and then backfire threw the intake? Also is there a way to use a timing light on a car if it will not start? Esentially my turning it over with the starter? I just cant figure out what is going on with this car. I mean all I did was replace the o rings in the injectors. Nothing to warrant the security system to trip. Or the timing to be out. I did replace the spark plugs and gapped them at .060 as recommended by the manufacture. Thank you again for your time and help!

Answer
You still may have an issue with the security system and that is preventing it from running. It will start and stall start and stall when the security system is in theft mode. You day that enough time the engine will load up with fuel and it can backfire. It doesn't mean it out of time.. did this car have any kind of timing chain noise prior to this happening? Like the sound of a sprayt can getting shaken up? If so then the timing chain was on it's way out and you trying to get it to run it may have jumped time.. there is no external way to tell if it jumped time other then doing a compression test is it's low on compression then Yep it jumped time. I don't have a spec fo you but if the compression is say less then 130PSI That would seem a bit low and then and only then would I suspect a timing jump issue.. It doesn't happen all that much on these engines But I have seen it.. I would still lean towards a secuirty issue.
