Pontiac Repair: 99 Pontiac Sunfire, neutral safety switch, pontiac sunfire

Question
Trying to start my car and sometimes the key wont turn all the way..I can hear everything engage including the fuel pump..After a few tries, and shifting the gear shift turning the steering wheel ect. it finally starts...My husband says possibly the neutral safety switch?..Where is this located?

Answer
Hi Pam:

if the key will not turn all the way to the "CRANK" position it's eithet the lock cylinder binding up or the electrical part of the ignition switch. It you can turn it to the crak position and nothin happens then Yes it could be a neutral safety switch.. It's prettu common for these to have issues with the lock cylinder to go bad and or bind up..
Good luck :)
