Pontiac Repair: 1997 Grand Prix Purge Valve, purge valve, vent valve

6V-3800 3.8L - May 09 had purge valve assembly replaced (1997210) and it was replaced again 11/09. Is this typical? How many purge valves are on this auto?

Hi Margaret:

there is only 1 "purge" valve on this car and 1 "vent" valve if the same part was replaced 2X then that is not typical. It depends on what was wrong with the valve it is was just IN-op or it was stuck open or stuck closed then I would suspect possably the evap charcole canister is to blame for the issue in some cases small pieces of charcole break up and get sucked into the valve and cause issues. If it goes bad again I would look in that direction as a root cause to the failures. Good luck :)
