Pontiac Repair: Heater in 95 grand am

Question
My heater doesn't work in my 95 grand am.  It is blowing air, just not hot air. It is not using antifreeze, the temperature gage works, it is not spewing black greasy stuff out of the defroster.

Answer
Hi Ginger:

whe  you move the Temp dial do you feel the air flow change at all out of the vents? you should feel a change in the velocity of the air that would indicate that indeed the tempature door is working in the heatre box. My guess is either the temp door is not working the heater core is plugged up or it's low on coolant and there is an air pocket in the heater core and yur not getting any heat. with the engine up to opertaing temp turn the car off and read down and touch the heater hoses one should be hot and the other a bit cooler if so the heatre core is not plugged and the coolant is flowing though it so it must be an issue with the temp door inside the heater box. good luck :0
