Pontiac Repair: Removing a gas tank 2002 pontiac sunfire, haynes manual, pontiac sunfire

I have taken all of the hoses lines and electrical plugs loose. I loosened the bolts from the tank hangers and yet the tank seems to be held from the top? My haynes manual says to drop the exhaust hanger and muffler but there's about 2-3 inches between the tailpipe and the tank. It should drop. I pulled the rear seat looking for the "Magnets"lol but there's nothing coming thru the floorboard except the seatbelt bolts. Does the tank have retainers above that Haynes doesn't know about?

Hi Gary:
Yes you have to drop the exhaust down and it's still a tight fit. You alos have to remove the heat shild between the pipe and the tank that is in the way as well. It will come out thne. Sometimes they need a "Gentle" pry down but be care ful the pant is only made of plastic. Ther are foam insulators that go inbetween the tank and the body and they stick to the body and hold the tank up from time to time. Good luck :)
