Pontiac Repair: 92 Grand Prix, hi mike, heater core

Question
Hi Todd,
My dad owns a 92 Grand Prix. He does not drive anymore, but tries to maintain his car for my mother. This summer he told me that the Air conditioning did not seem to be working very well. This weekend he told me that the heater did not seem to be putting out much.Is there a filter for the air intake on this? If not, how big of job is it to get at and clean the heater core?
Thanks Again,
Mike

Answer
Hi Mike:

Ther is not an air filter for the HVAC on that car. It may have an issue where the evaporator core for the a/c was leaking and the oil coated the core and the dirt in the air stuck to the oil and that is the reason for no air flow. I assume that is the issue her there is little or no air flow when you turn on the blower??? You can take the blower motor resisitor out and take a lok into the heater box and you may be able to see the core plugged up. If this is the case you can try a brake parts cleaner and spray it into the heatr box and try to clean the dirt and oil off the core and see if that helps. Good luck :)
