Pontiac Repair: 2001 Pontiac Firebird 3.8L v-6., rear wheel bearings, pontiac firebird

Question
I am trying to replace rear wheel bearings and cannot seem to get the wheel axel off to get to the bearings. Any words of advice?

Answer
Hi Alex:
in order to get the axles out you have to disassemble the rear differential. The cover has to come off and there is a cross pin in the differential assembly that the speder gears rotate on the pin has to be removed ther is a bolt with an 8MM head on it that has to be taken out first slide the pin out and then push in on each axle and the c-lock clips will fall out and then you can remove the axle shafts. Try a Google search for detailed instructions This is just a thumb nail of what has to be done but I think you get the idea It's a bit time consuming. Good luck :)
