Pontiac Repair: 97 Sunfire and DEXCOOL, dexcool, gm car

Question
97 Sunfire with 2.4L engine. Just a quick question - I have been faithful in sticking with DEXCOOL antifreeze - I have noticed lately that there are antifreezes available that say good for ALL engines - this is usually cheaper than the DEXCOOL stuff or should I stick with DEXCOOL - I have had no cooling system problems at all per se - but an unrelated repair has caused me to lose a small amount of antifreeze (about enough to fill the cooling reserve tank and set off the dashboard warning light). Thanks. Bob

Answer
Hi Bob:

Use only Dex-cool in a GM car do not add "safe for all" to dex-coll it will not hurt the car to mix it but you will losse the extended life of the dex-cool. if you add anything else to it you will have to have the system flushed/changed every other year then. Dex-coll is good for 5 years 100,000 miles once you contaminate it it is just like the style stuuf that needs to be changed. sooner. Good luck :)
