Pontiac Repair: 2001 Grand Am, vacuum leak, wait 1 minute

Question
Car: 2001 Pontiac Grand Am 2.4L 4 cylinder
What would cause the car to run for about 2 miles and then the engine will die when you slow down to stop or turn. It also will die if you are idleing in park. The car starts back up fine and as long as you keep the engine revved up while slowing down it will keep running. I have replaced the spark plugs and the fuel filter. The car runs fine while traveling down the road;it only happens when slowing down or idleing.

Answer
Hi Homer:

the car doesn't run roungh at all it just dies? How about on a cold start does the engine race at a higher RPM then usual? You could have a vacuum leak possably to the MAP sensor. You could have a sticking idle control motor and or the throttle place can be all gummed up with carbon and the idle control motor is too slow to compensate for that. try cleaning the idle control motor and throttle body with a can of carb cleaner or inatke system cleaner and see what happens. after doing that disconnect the battery let it sit for 10 minutes then reconnect the battery cycle the key to run do not start the car. turn thr key off wait 1 minute then start the car up it will start hard because of the cleaner in the engine but see if that helps you out. good luck :)
