Pontiac Repair: 2002 Grand Prix GTP Engine Noises, grand prix gtp, wheel spokes

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2002 Grand Prix GTP 3.8 V6.  Upon acceleration the car is making a weird noise, which gets louder the harder I press on the gas to accelerate.  (It almost sounds like what you hear when kids put playing cards in the wheel spokes of their bike). If I am simply driving at a constant speed I don't seem to hear the noise.  Any idea what is causing this?  Could it have to do with the super charged engine?

THanks

ANSWER: Hi Jasmine:

does it make the noise when you are sitting in park and rev the engine up? If so it's something in the engien or somethin that is driven by one of the 2 serpantine belts. These were noted for pulleys to go bad that are driven by the serpantine belts. Without hearing it it's hard to tel you what the issue is.. If it doesn't do it in park then it's either something in the tranamission or in one of the drive axle assemblys. On rare occasions these later model 3800 super cahrged engines had issue with the super charger The nose piece on the unit would go bad and start to make noise but it's more of a rattle then anything else. Good luck :)

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Todd, it does make the noise when i am sitting in park and rev the engine.  Do you think this is going to be a really costly repair?  And is it something that if not fixed immediately will cause other problems, or make the matter worse?

Thanks so much for your help.  I love my car but this is the third major problem in the past 2 months, and the 4th in the past year.

Answer
well it narrows it down that it's more thne likley not transmission related but still could be. I'm leaning towards something that is belt driven. Like an idler puller or tensioner. It's something that should be addressed sooner rather then later when something breaks and you loose a dive belt and either loose power steering or you over heat the engine because the belt came off.
