Pontiac Repair: tensioner, heater hoses, hose nipples

Question
I have an 05 grand prix that need the tensioner replaced how do i go about doing that

Answer
Hey Leah:

the belt tensioner on this car is part of the heater hose inlet/outlet as well as the bypass for the thermostat. You'll need a tensioner assembly and the seal to seal it to the block and timing cover I think ther are 3 )-rings you will need plus the 2 for the heater hose nipples. you will also need a bypass elbow. Then in order to replace this drain the coolant down about half way in the radaitor. remove the heater hoses and the belt from the tensioner. The alternator will have to come off to to gain access to this. There are 3 or 4 bolts that hold the tensioner onto the engine remove them and gently pry the assembly away from the engine. replace all the o-rings and the bypass elbow that goes in between the lower intake manifold and the tensioner and just reverse the order to assemble thi. Fill the cooling system with the heater hoses off that will pretty much get the air out of the system before you start the car up. Good luck :0
