Pontiac Repair: Wont start sometimes, pontiac parisienne, starter solenoid

Question
Have a 68 Pontiac Parisienne.  Starts fine first thing in the morning.  After driving sometimes will not start unless I turn the key and short out the contacts on the solenoid.  May start with the key next time but may not.  Could it be the solenoid, since the starter is new.

Answer
Hi Ed:

could be the solenod. it could be a bad connection somewhere in the "crank" ckt between the ket and the solenoid. next time it will not start have some one crank the cara while you check for "crank" volatge at the starter solenoid. if there is battery volatge at the solenoid on the crank wire and it will not crank then yes it's a bad solenoid. It should at least make a clicking noise if not the solenoid is bad. Good luck :0
