Pontiac Repair: 1997 ponitac sunfire, ponitac sunfire, plug wires

i have this car and i am able to drive but it will not go over 30mph it gets stuck and will not go no faster and it has a sputter coming out of the muffler. Everything else seems to shift right and so what could that be and what would i need to check.

Hi Ross:
I would start my checking spark on all 4 cylinders with a spark checker My guess is you have 1 or 2 cylinders that are not firing. it could have a bad ignition coil or module or a bad set of plug wires. from what you said with the exhaust sounding wierd it's not running on all 4 cyliners and lack of spark is the first place I would look. good luck :)
