Can you remove a 2.2L 4-cyl engine out of an '01 Cavalier without taking out the transmission also?

Hi Brian Yes you can. the only thing you need to do is remove the harmonic balancer from the engine before you remove the engine from the car that will give you the extra room you need to get the flywheel out of the transmission bell housing. what will also aid in getting it out is by jacking the nose of the transaxle up on the passenger side of the car before you pull out the engine.  Good luck :)
