Pontiac Repair: 2001 SSEi Stalling issue, gm ford, ground cable

Question
The car turns on fine, after 30 seconds the battery voltage drops off, and the car putters then stalls. The shop put in a new alternator, but after three weeks the problem persisted. The shop then put in a new computer. The car now doesn't stall but the battery voltage jumps from 14.3 to 12.0

Answer
Hi Mike:

have you verifided that the voltage actaully jumps all over with a volt gauge? The gauge on the dash may be bad or the module that drives the dash cluster could be bad. I would check the actaul voltage at the battery with a digital volt gauge. If indeed the volta re jumping all over then it can be a lot of things. from a bad ground cable or positive battery cable loose gound or corroded ground connection. To even a bad "new" alternator especially if it's a aftermarket alternator. any kind of electrical component on any new car should get O.E.M. parts wether it'a a Gm Ford Or chrysler etc.. Use ONLY original equipment parts.. Has nay kind of warning lamps come on on the dash like check guages or service engine soon etc.. That would be a place to look at also.. That is where I would start and go from there. good luck :0
