Pontiac Repair: 2005 Grandprix, mass air flow sensor, mass air flow

Question
Hi Todd,
I have a 2005 Grandprix that hesitates upon acceleration sometimes. Sometimes when I accelerate hard it will actually jerk or slip. I have taken it to a pontiac dealer a few times and they say it doesn't do anything when they have it. I only have 3,000 miles left on my extended warranty so I really need help. Thank you.

Answer
Hi Angie:

Is this a transmission issue you have or is it a engine running issue you have or both? You can look at it this way to thatgine isn't running right it will effect the way the transmission runs. if this happens at the same time I would think for sure the engine running bad or hesitating could be the root cause of the transmission slipping. The engines in these cars rarely have any kind of running problems at all so this is an odd one.. does it happen more so cold or hot or just when ever it feels like it? does it hesitate from a dead stop or when your driving down the road and try to pass someone it hesitstes or slips? I would lean towrds possably a mass air flow sensor is acting up or is dirty that is the major load input to the engine computer for fuel delivery to the engine.. do you use only 87 octane fuel in this car? have you tried other brands of 87 cotane fuel.. right now fule refineries are adding more alcohol to the fuel to streach the profit levels and it has a big efffect on the way engines run especially when the engine is cold..
