Pontiac Repair: rusted sockets inside lamp assembly, pontiac sunfire, 2000 pontiac sunfire

Question
I have a 2000 Pontiac sunfire 2.2 SE coupe. During an inspection, I was told I need a new lamp assembly (part number 22672006) for the rear license plate lamps. They found water in the assembly and said the sockets were all rusted out. This is not repairable and the complete assembly needed to be replaced. The dealer indicated that these are not made anymore, but quoted me a price of $700. I am assuming that this includes the labor as well. He did tell me that if I found one at a junk yard or something that they would install it for $200. This seems rather steep for this part. Do I have any other options to repair this? Is there anyway to just replace the sockets? Can you suggest where I might be able to locate this part without searching for hours on the internet and the phone? Can it be spliced? Any information will be helpful. Thank you

Answer
Hi PAm:
That is steep. ususally the sockets for a license plate lamp assembly are servicable, I'm not a prts guy youm may want to call any GM dealer's parts department give them that part # and ask them what exactly that part is? why your on the phone with them tell them you want the sockets for the licnece plate lamps I bet they are about #30.00 a piece and they can be changed with out having to buy a complete assembly.. Good luck :)
