Pontiac Repair: 2001 pontiac sunfire a/c, pontiac sunfire, cabin air filter

Question
I just bought a 2001 Pontiac sunfire SE 2 door 2.2 engine. the previous owner told me that the air filter needs to be replaced for the A/C to work.
1. does this make any sense?
2. where would this filter be?
3. can i do this repair myself?

Answer
hi john:

that car doesn't have a cabin air filter. so that's not the problem. If the a/c doesn't work but the heater does. more then lilley the a/c system is low on a charge of 134a gas. You can but a recharge kit at the parts store and try filling it up and see what happens... It could be other issues as well like an electrical fault to the compressor etc... It really is hard to say with out seeing the car what the exact issue here is.
Good luck :)
