Pontiac Repair: Pontiac Repair, repair question, best bet

Question
QUESTION: I just bought a 1999 sunfire GT 2.4 liter 5-speed with 80,000 miles on it for $600, theres a huge hole in the oil pan but still holds a quart of oil. I'm afraid to start it and cause more problems I'm thinking it shot a rod but not sure. If so what kind of repairing is needed?

ANSWER: well if it shot a rod, you will definately be looking at some major engine work, if it was just that something hit the oil pan, you could get away with just a pan, assuming that they did not run it out of oil and spin a bearing, hard call to make.  Best bet would be to drop the oil pan and inspect the crank, see if all the rods are attached, if so look for scoring on the crank

QUESTION: If it shot a rod what all do i have to replace?

ANSWER: well for sure the oil pan and the roc, bearings, piston, you would need to inspect the bore for dameage as well.  Most likely best bet would be a complete engine, hate to have another fail

QUESTION: I found a QUAD4 Engine that runs great for $500, with 140k miles on it. I was wanting to know if I could drop a QUAD4 HIGH OUTPUT engine out of a 1997 grand am into my 1999 sunfire which has the blown 2.4liter engine in it and if so do I have to worry about any problems with the computer? Will i have to swap computers? Please help

Answer
i would definately be concerned about the computer, it manages fuel and timing etc.  The computers might be set up differently due to year and vehicle weight, if the grand am computer will plug in I would certainly try to use it, if not, I guess the only thing to do is try it, if you are dead set on getting that motor, otherwise try to find the right one
