Pontiac Repair: 96 grand am 2.4 misfire, actaully, ignition coils

Question
their is a crack on the plastic housing that holds the
ignition coils. Could that make it misfire or do you think it
is the coils themselves?

Answer
Hi Steven:

it depends on where the crack is. If it's anywhere near the path the coils take to fire the plugs then yes for sure. Actaully on these engines it's VERY rarely that the coils go bad or the ignition modules. 90% of the time it's the coil houing that goes bad the coils cross fire inside the plastic housing or the boots that go between the coil housing and the plugs go bad. not much else goes bad with the igniton system on these engines.
Good luck :0
