Pontiac Repair: 2000 pontiac sunfire, pontiac sunfire, steering knuckles

Question
Brakes have been replaced on the car totally 1 week now. Front brakes appear to be wearing excessively brake dust on front rims(coated)excessive heat radiating from front wheels after driving (new routers) very shiny with slight grooving appearing. The calipers appeared to be in good condition and the sliders were lube up well. The cars traction control light is illuminated stating that there might be a problem with that system. I also found out that the brakes were replaced last, about 11/2 years ago with the back brakes still in good condition and the front worn out. This will continue unless I find the root problem of excessive wear on the front brakes
thank you

Answer
Hi Robert:

well it can be a few things. as for the dust cheap brake pads or non ceramic pads will create dust after a few days so don't go by that. As for the front brakes hanging up the only real issue these cars have is the bushings inside the front calipers go bad and the slider pins hang up in the calipers. Also the pad mounting surface on the steering knuckles where the pads ride if that is rusted up the the pads will drag. That's usually all that happens with these. If this car has a lot of miles on it I would take a look at the rear brakes they may be way out of adjustment and or a leaking seized wheel cylinder. If the back brakes are not working the front wil be working harder then they have to.

Good luck :)
