Pontiac Repair: Instrument cluster (guages), ac delco battery, voltage spike

After having my AC delco battery boosted by a car club the guages  became inoperative (all other electronics okay). Told by GM dealer I need a new instrument cluster. Could this have been caused by improper boosting procedure.

What Model car is this? Sunfire?? It's a common issue a voltage spike must have done in the insterment cluster. I could have been from the jump start if the jump was done while your car had the key in the on position when the boost was attached But proving it is hard to do.. I'm sure the 2 are related. It could have happend when you tried to start the car and the battery being low on a charge as well The cluster may have been damaged due to low volatge as well "doubt it" but anything is possable.
