Pontiac Repair: 98 pontiac grand prix emergency brake light, pontiac grand prix, brake master cylinder

Question
I have a Pontiac grand prix 1998 and just this week i have found that in the morning when i go to take my son to school the emergency brake light does not go off when i push it off (i always park and then put on my emergency brake) although even if i did not previously put the e brake on the light seems to be on when i start it up in the morning. after letting the car sit for a couple of hours next time i go out it works fine and doesn't do it again the entire day/night but come the next morning... i have also tried putting it in neutral to see if it is the brake or just the light and it is just the light. why would this be happening and only for a little while in the mornings?

Answer
Hi Cindy:

I don't think you have an issue here witha parking brake light it's a low brake fluid warning lamp. Theyy use the same bulb. Check to make sure the fluid levle is up in the brake master cylinder. If it's low eithere there's a leak in the system or the brake pads are very worn out. good luck :)
