Pontiac Repair: ignition, steering wheel, linkage

can't start my 97 grand prix the steering is locked key won't turn and neither will the steering wheel

Hi Al:

well either something is binding up in the steering columnor the steering shaft is binding up the lock linkage. Are the wheels turned all the way to one side of the other and the car possbaly on an incline? If so try turning the wheel in the same direction they are turned and turn the key at the same time it could just be jammed up for the load of the steering shaft. If that doesn't do it your out of luck and are going to have to have it looked at. It's odd for this to happen on these cars. Good luck :)
