Pontiac Repair: Engines when put in drive or reverse, 1994 pontiac sunbird, pontiac sunbird

I have a 1994 Pontiac Sunbird Le that ran and drove fine yesterday. Today when I started to work it started fine, but when I placed it in reverse it died. Then I placed it in drive and it died again. It will only stay running on park or neutral. What is wrong?

Will it run fine if you try running the engine spped up while it's in park? If not you could have a fuel delivery issue here where the extra load on the engine it dies out. putting it into drive or reverse puts a load on it and then it dies. Any service engine soon lamp on?  did it have any kind of running problem prior to this at all? Does it start hard?
