Pontiac Repair: Front end noise, goodyear eagle rsa, strut bearings

Question
I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand am GT 3.4 V6
I hear a sqweeking/grinding sound coming from the front end at low sppeds and louder when turning. It sounds like the brakes are riding on the rotor but the brakes and rotors are new and not rubbing.

Answer
Hi Jeff:

well this can be a few things. Depending on the wheel and tire combination on this car the tires make a noise on the rim bead. try overinflating the tires to about 45 PSI and drive it and see if the noise goes away If so it's the tires making the noise on the rim. If not the you have to look at the suspension. these cars are noted for a lot of different noises stemming from the strut assembly like the strut mounts and strut bearings. Good Luck :)

Thanks for the great rating to my answer!

If you gave me more to go on I would have been able to help you out more. If you look at my scores they are Top notch for all answers. Let me remind you this is a FREE sight and I volunteer my time here I don't get paid to answer questions.

If this car is equipped with Goodyear Eagle RSA tires and has aluminum wheels the noise you described to me is from the tires especially if the tread depth is low on the tires.
