Pontiac Repair: 2002 Grand Prix GT-Horn honks itself!, pontiac grand prix, grand prix gt

Question
I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GT.  Occasionally the horn will honk itself, just like it would if I was actually pushing it.  It is a short honk and only does it once.  It's happened when I have been driving down the interstate and when I've been waiting at a stop light.  What could be the cause of this?

Answer
Hi Angie:

The contacts for the horn are part of the air bag assembly in this car. If the outter casing on the air bag gets distorted say from the heat from the sun over time the contacts become VERY sensitive and just touching the bag part of the steering wheel closes contact and the horn will blow just as if you pushed hard on it. The only way to fix it is a new air bad inflator module for the steering wheel.. It's an expensive part to say the least.
Good luck :)
