Pontiac Repair: 1993 Grand Am turn signal problem, fuse panel, salvage yard

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1993 Grand Am GT with a 3.3 V-6 and the turn signals come on but do not flash.  All of the lights come on and the hazard flashers work fine.  I replaced the only flasher that I am aware of located to the left of the steering column, next to the a three prong relay, but that didn't change anything.  When I remove that flasher, the turn signals do not come on at all, so I am of the belief that it is the correct flasher.  I even picked up a used multifunction switch at a salvage yard and tried that thinking that it might be someting odd in the turn signal part of the that switch, but nothing changed when I replace that.  I do not have the owners manual, so I don't know if there is some other hidden relay to check, but the fuse checks out fine in the fuse panel too.  What else can it possibly be?

ANSWER: Hi Duane:

All of the rest of the lights work on this car? walk aropund the car with the 4 way flashers on and make sure all of the lights work. If not replace the bulbs for the ones that are in-op. If you pull out the flasher and the lamps go out you did have the correct one. This car has 2 one for the t/s and one for the 4-way. the flasher element you replaced is the part # stamped on it the same as the one you took out? If you have the incorrect flasher EG: parts store sold you a 4 way and you need one for t/s it will act the exact same way! make sure the part# is correct. Tyhe flashers look exactly the same. The factory one have a paint stripe on them one is usually yellow and one blue. They are stamped like 323 and 424. Make sure you have the right one for the car or you will be chasing an non existant problem caused by the wrong part. I can't think of any other issue that would cause this to happen.. Good luck :)

QUESTION: Where is the second one?  I found the one that is for the hazard/4 way flashers, but I can't find a second one.  I checked all of the bulbs and they are good.  i can't find a second flasher.  The hazards go out when I pull the one I found, but the turn signals stay lit...Where would the second one be?  The one I found that affects the hazards is under the dash and to the left of the steering column.  Thanks!

Answer
they are right near each other. they are both mounted to the metal support of the dash baord. That's why when they turn off and on you an hear them the clicking echo's through the dash. They should both be on the left side of the column unless it was replaced once before and someone didn't put it back in the same place.
