Pontiac Repair: Pontiac sunfire Charging System Light, pontiac sunfire, engine control module

Hi - I own a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire and the System Charging Light has come on several times.  It only comes on when I'm in the car, in park, with it running.   It only stays on for a few seconds at a time, then goes off.   Last weekend I took it to the garage and they ran a check on it and couldn't find anything wrong.   Yet it continues to happen.  Any ideas what my next step should be?

well at the time they check out the problem My guess is the lamp wasn't on thus at that time the system was working properly. Your going to have to have it loooked at when it's acting up. Intermittant eletrical problems are VERY hard to find. The alternator at times muct not be charging the battery back up and that is why the lamp is comming on. It can be an alternator that's acting up. An engine control module or a bad wiring connection. Like I said without it doing it at the time that some one looks into the problem it's hard to find it.. If a certain type of driving seems to induce the lamp to come on tell the repair shop what you seems to make it come on more often It will make their job easier. Good luck :)
