Pontiac Repair: 2000 Trans Am Transmition, rd gear, clutch assembly

Question
I'm having an issue with me 2000 Pontiac Trans Am V8 5.7Lt Automatic transmission and the hertz manual is lacking on the subject.
I was in second gear doing around 30 when I had hit the gas the car dropped to first and struggled to change to the next gear. Since then I'm having issues from first to second gear. It revs higher before changing and takes a while to fully shift into the next gear. I normally have to get it up to 3rpm and let of the gas for it to change gears.
I've changed the fluid, filter, and gasket. Pulled out the 1st and 2nd solenoids cleaned the rods and checked for resistance on the solenoids. Everything was in perfect working order and condition however it is still having issues with first to second gear.
When I went in to get a new solenoid for good measure. I've been having issues trying to find the right one. The plug has a different shape but fits with gaps on the sides, and the cylinder that houses the rod has a different tip. It fits in there however I'm skeptical on testing it. Will it damage the system if I were to use that?

Answer
Hi Robert:

I think you have more than a shift solenois issue here. Dirst off get a GM shift solenoid not an aftermarket one. Seconf this transmission is known for 3'rd gear burning up. Usually 2'nd is not the issue but At times it can go bad. I think you mave an internal tranmission issue with the forward clutch assembly that has burnt up or is in the process of burning up... You can try the shift solenoid but My guess is you gonna have to pull the transmission dowan and have it look at inside... There are NO adjustment to this at all. Not like an old turbo 350 or turbo 400 transmission that you could adjust the bad and off you went. Good luck :)
