Pontiac Repair: my gas gauge dont work, fuel level sensor, mass air flow sensor

i have a 1999 pontiac grand prix and my gas gauge quit working it goes up and down and the stays and up and down again and my check engine light wont go off i had it put on a machine and it said something about mass aiflow error code would that cause that check engine light to stay on

Well you have 2 different issues here. They are not related. the gas Gauge issue is more then likely a fuel level sensor in the tank that has gon bad. They wear out over time It's pretty common on these cars. You can get the level sensor by it's self You do not need a complet tank unit. As for the S.E.S. Lamp if the code is for a mass air flow sensor and this is a 3800 V6 engine then yes Those are pretty common to go bad as well. Do not get an aftermarket sensor use only AC delco part for this. You will have issues with the way it runs with an el cheap 'o part. Good luck :0
