Pontiac Repair: dash gauges, pontiac montana, fuel gauge

Question
2004 Pontiac Montana ext van 3900 v6 auto
My fuel gauge quit and I had it checked at the dealer. They said it is the dash gauge and I have to replace the entire cluster. I did not have it repaired at that time. Since then the temp gauge has quit, then the tach is now registering an over rev, and now the speedometer has quit. I am afraid to replace the cluster incase something is causing all this and will do the same to the new cluster. Any suggestions as to what is causing this or is it just coincidence. do you answer me directly or do I have to check the web page. thank you Bryan Keresztes

Answer
Hey Bryan:

If they quit worink at different times I would say that yes the dash cluster is to blame. But if they all quit working at the same time then I would suspect that something else in the van has made it quit workig. The dash cluster gets all the inputs for the indicators and gauges from other modules in the car and if there was a communication line issue in this van all the guages would have quit at the same time not one at a time going bad. It sounds to me like the cluster is bad in this van. Good luck :0
