Pontiac Repair: 2003 Pontiac Sunfire oil leak, pontiac sunfire, 2003 pontiac sunfire

Question
Hey Todd,
I have a 2003 Pontiac Sunfire GT. It a a 5-speed manual with a 2.2L Ecotec in it. I had what seemed like an innocent oil leak/drop but it wasn't affected the oil level at all. I'm pretty good with maintenance and making sure to check fluids, etc. before every trip.

Well the other day I came back from a trip and smelled something burning. Popped the hood and there was severe oil leakage/spray all over the right side of the engine bay. The belts were coated by not slipping (yet) and the pulley were coated...pretty much the whole right side edge of the engine....but the intake and exhaust manifold was for the most part dry. So the leak is only on the very right side edge.

Hopefully this is detailed enough for you to form an answer!
Thanks,
Jared

Answer
Hi Jared:

wirr it's comming from the front of the engine so it's one of 2 things either the front crankshaft oil seal or the oil pan is leaking between the block and the pan. My guess is the front oil seeal being that the belt was coated with oil.
Good luck :0
