Pontiac Repair: speedometer dash unit 03 Pont. Booneville, trip odometer, push pins

Question
QUESTION: What are the steps that need to be taken to remove the dash unit with the speedometer in it?

ANSWER: Hi There:

It's really pretty easy. tilt the steering wheel all the way down, ther are 2 push pins in the top of the bezel that goes around the speedo pust the center of the retainer in and then pop the retainer out. remove the piece of trim that has the buttons for the DIC/trip odometer buttons and then use a small screw driver or pick and GENTLY pull the bezel out that surrounds the speedo/radio/hvac control head . The speedo assembly has 2 or 4 screws that attach it to the dash that you will see once that bezle is removed. Good luck :)

QUESTION: Hi Todd, Will I have to have the computer reprogrammed in order for the new speedometer to work properly and will the vehicle operate okay with the new speedometer. Thanks, I won't be able to work on the vehicle till monday, but my dealer stated that they had to have the numbers off of the back of the bad speedometer before he can order me a replacement. Thanks again for your help

Answer
No The speedo/cluster assembly in these cars are plug and play no programming needed. install remanufactured units from an authorized dealer for GM. We just give them the par# off the old cluster and the milage on the car and they send of a reman unit to intall it comes with the correct milage on it to match the milage on the car.
