Pontiac Repair: Pontiac Sunfire, pontiac sunfire, daytime running lights

Question
We have not been able to start our 2001 sunfire with a key for almost a year, it will start only with the remote starter. I replaced the ignition switch, did not work.
I disconnected the remote start all together, did not work.
Checked all fuses, all good.At my witts end, need help.
Also daytime running lights flash 5 times then go out when car is put in gear and brights do not work, all happened at once.

Answer
Hi Lenny:

well the deal with the daytime lights is more then likley a wire harness issue in the front lamp harness. one of the splices for the heal lamps is more then likley rotted out. There are about 4 of them in that harness and the water wicks into the harness and destroys the connections for the head lamps. As for starting the car. what happens whenyou try to start it with the key? start and stall and the security lamp flash? Or no crank at all?? If it the firt I would suspect where the remote start was tied into the car is the issue or you have a problem with the ignition lock housing not the switch. The housing has the security sensor in it from the factory and they go bad a lot. It it will not crank at all it could be a lot of things. let me know which issue it is... no crank or start stall.
