Pontiac Repair: power window motors keep dying, visious circle, headlight assembly

Question
I have a '99 Firebird 3.8L V6.  I've owned it since '01.  I've replaced the window motors on both sides 3 times now, and I'm getting ready to replace the driver's side headlight motor for the second time.  The window motors just run out of juice it seems, and the headlight motor acts as if it doesn't realize that the headlight assembly has lowered itself all the way to the closed position and keeps winding, making a sound like it's grinding the teeth on the gears.

Were there no recalls on these recurring problems and is there something I can do to keep from having to repair the same problem over and over?

Daniel

Answer
Hi Daniel:

the head lamp motors and window motors are VERY common to go bad on these cars. there are no updated parts that I'm aware of for either part so you just wind up replacing the parts with the same thing you took out that failed. It's a visious circle. I can tell you as for the window motor If the regulator is binding it will kill the motor sooner rater than later. If you have just been replacing the motor and not the regulator I would replace the whole assembly and not just the motor. Also If thsi car has t-tops and the window run channels/tracks are not adjusted properly it will kill the motor soonnneeerrrr rater than later also. Good luck :)
