Pontiac Repair: 02 Grand Am instrument lights, fog lights out, fog lamps, head lamps

Question
I have an '02 Grand am in which I removed the multifunction switch on the steering column to clean it so that the infamous clicking would stop. I cleaned the multifunction switch with an electrical degreaser by spraying it into all the holes and then applied a nonconductive, greaseless lubricant suitable for electrical contacts into the holes. I also opened it up about 1/4" on the turn signal arm side, after I took out all but 1 screw, in order to spray the liquid degreaser and lube inside. Well, the clicking stopped but now the guage lights, fog lights, and instrument panel lights are all non functional and the "Service Vehicle Soon" light is on. I've checked all the lighting and Body Function fuses and they are all good. Any ideas? It is a 2002 Grand Am, 4 cyl

Answer
Hey SAM:

well I would have to say the switch is bad you took apart. All the head lamp functions go through that switch as well as the turn signals. that would explain why the dash lamps and fog lamps do not work. The head lamps and park lamps have to work in order for the fog lamps and dash lighing to work. The BCM is not seeing the correct inputs from the switch and that is why the SVS lamp is on. Good luck :)
