Pontiac Repair: 1988 pontiac Firebird V6 2.8 Overheating, radiator hoses, pontiac firebird

Question
Overheating problem! Car has had many items changed, water pump, radiator, hoses, belt, thermostat. Recently I replaced the temperature sensor (two lead sensor- in the manifold) and the radiator cap. Still having the overheating problem, I even removed the radiator cap and watched the flow of water through the radiator. I have just replaced the electric cooling motor. But as of yet the motor comes on sometimes and sometimes not?? I do not know were the relay to this motor is located? I am tempted to just hard wire the fan to the battery with a switch or tie into constant power somewhere, using the ignition switch to activate it and let it run constantly while the engine is running! This is my daughters first car and really loves it, I'm trying to fix this as inexpensive as possible, but also use good sense! Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Jack:

well this engine has a second tempature sensor on  it I belive. It's bit before my time. But there is a signle wire temp sensor on this car I belive that just runs the fan. I don't remeber where it is though. It's eithere in the block or in  the intake manifold. I actuallt belive this engine may have up to 3 of them depending on if it has a guages package or not. the sensor/switch of the fan will have just a single wire on it. you can unplug it and ground that wire and see if the fan runs or not. If so the senor/switch is bad. If not the issue is elsewhere. I belive the replay is either on the fire wall or on the inner fender well.. Like I said anything older then 1990 I'm a bit foggy on... Good luck :0
